Ormskirk Advertiser 10th October 1918 ORMSKIRK'S STEWARD'S LUCKY ESCAPE Amongst the few survivors of the crew of the Burutu sunk in collision last week Mr J.W. Banks of Southport-road, Ormskirk, who escaped by jumping into the sea after the vessel was struck armed with a life jacket. He swam about for a considerable time before being picked up by one of the ship's boats. He lost all his belongings.

Burutu Crew Casualty Petty Officer R Alun Jones
South Wales October 1918 The Rev G. Jones of the New Congregational Chapel, Hendy, has received news that his only surviving son, Petty Officer R. Elfin Jones, was lost in the Burutu. Eleven months ago his elder son, Lieutenant R. Alun Jones, was killed in action.
