FIRST WORLD WAR LIVERPOOL
A COLLECTION OF RESEARCH PROJECTS BY AMANDA TAYLOR
Elder Dempster Roll of Honour

Some time ago I bought a book on ebay, the Roll of Honour of the Elder Dempster Shipping Company. It was a book published by the Elder Dempster Shipping Company to honour their employees who were lost in the First World War.

The book contains detailed accounts of the sinking of ships of the Elder Dempster Fleet, written in a very patriotic and dramatic style, and Rolls of Honour. These Rolls of Honour list the names of the men and women who were lost with those ships or who enlisted to serve in the war and were killed.

I have found the list to be generally reliable but not very accurate, there are many misspellings of surnames and only initals given alongside their position on the ship.

Where possible I have cross-referenced the lists with the CWGC database, for some of the ships this was not possible as they were not eligible for commemoration (their loss not having been directly due to enemy action) I have also looked for newspaper reports and tried to add any detail I can find.

Here is a list of the individual Rolls of Honour in the book, which will take you to further information. With over 500 names in the book, it will take me some time to get all the information on the website, in the meantime please feel free to contact me with any lookup requests (contact sheet on home page).

This is a list of the sections in the book, mainly the names of ships:
