Myrtle Street Orphan Asylum Roll of Honour.

The archives at Liverpool Central Library contain a folder full of completed forms. These forms were sent out to all the 'Old Boys' of the Myrtle St Orphan Asylum who had served during the war. Some were completed by the soldiers themselves, with varying amounts of detail, some were completed by the next of kin.

The forms give details of the soldier's address, regiment, rank, dates of enlistment and discharge/death and have a space for details of service or any other points of interest. Some soldiers listed all the battles they had taken part in, dates and details of injuries and hospital stays, some didn't even give their rank.

This is an interesting set of information because it includes men who served and survived as well as casualties, some had emigrated after leaving the orphanage and their addresses in Australia, New Zealand and the USA are given. All of these men were orphans so next-of-kin is often a surviving sibling, a sister or even a landlandy.

There are several musicians in this collection and some comments, ranks and occupations that show the boys of the Myrtle St Orhpan Asylum must have received a good education and music lessons. One of them even annotated his form to say he was a schoolmaster thanks to the education they had provided.

The information given below is currently only a basic list of the men but I aim to add more details to it. In the meantime, if you'd like further info on any of the entries please contact me using the form on the homepage or via the facebook page.
