A FIGHTING FAMILY

Mr and Mrs Francis Byrne, of 54 Belmont-road, Anfield, have six sons now serving with the troops, some of them at the front viz :- Gunner Francis Byrne R.F.A. Canadian contingent (formerly a sergeant in the Lancashire Fusiliers); Oswald Byrne, torpedo-gunner’s mate H.M.S. Bellona; Edward Byrne A.B. H.M.S. Duke of Edinburgh; Gunner Albert Byrne R.G.A.; Gunner Vincent Byrne R.G.A. and Alfred Paul Byrne, H.M.S. Tiger, Mr Byrne’s brother, colour sergeant Paul Byrne, who had been pensioned, has re-joined the King’s Liverpool Regiment; and his son in law Corporal Thomas Dalton, is in the Lancashire Fusilers.

Mr Byrne himself is an old soldier, having served twelve years as a bandsman in the East Essex Regiment.

After leaving the army he joined the Liverpool Police Force, and served in the band for over twenty-seven years. He has now retired.
